Its not just about the money
You will often be able to attend training courses for a token fee through Business Link, or attend networing events. These should be taken up, you will meet people in the same situation as yourself and its good for making contacts, and promoting your business. Every business has a sales element, not least you are selling yourself, so get out there and meet some people!
There are always strict criteria for applicants which could be related to the number of employees, the annual turnover (current or planned) of even where you live. Many grants are funded by the EU via organisations like Advantage West Midlands and qualification is often based on location. Save yourself the hassle and get a professional in to help. Having clear ideas what the money is for and a business plan will help, especially if you are a start-up.
